WHAT IS REIKI?

Welcome to BWell Reiki! I provide Reiki treatments in Austin. Scroll through my site and if you have questions or want to make an appointment, please visit the Contact page. Happy healing, namaste, kombucha!;)

The most basic explanation of Reiki is that it's a hands-on, natural energy healing modality. The word reiki comes from the Japanese words “Rei,” meaning universal, and “Ki,” which means vital life force energy. (Ki is the Japanese literal translation, while Chi is the Chinese literal translation of the same concept: universal life force energy). I like to think of it as a sort of energetic acupuncture: Reiki can help to remove energetic blockages and return your chakra/energetic system to balance, thus allowing your physical body to heal, or begin to heal, itself.

The Reiki practitioner is a sort of conduit for Reiki: the energy flows through the practitioner’s energy field and through her hands to the person receiving Reiki. The energy does not originate from the practitioner but rather comes through the practitioner. Reiki is not learned but is passed down from Reiki masters. It is a specific frequency of energy, and once you are attuned to it, you can always tap into it.

When a person’s Ki is strong and free flowing (without blockages) their body and mind return to a positive state of health, emotionally and physically. When the energy becomes weak or blocked it could lead to symptoms of physical or emotional imbalance. After a Reiki session, you may find that a solution to an ongoing problem presents itself, or else that you have less pain in a particular area that's been bothering you. Basically the idea is that when your energetic body is in balance, your body's own ability to heal itself can function properly.

What happens during a Reiki session? The session itself is about 45 minutes. My hands stay slightly above the body, or sometimes I will use light touch on the crown chakra (only if the client is comfortable with that). My hand placements correspond generally to the chakra system, although sometimes I am guided to an area that doesn't exactly correspond with any one particular chakra. The treatment takes place lying down on a massage table. I like to use sound healing music and low lighting. I may burn sage and/or palo santo before the session. After the session we can briefly discuss anything that may have come up during the treatment. I always send detailed notes about anything that comes up during the session, just in case the client finds the information helpful in their healing.

What does Reiki feel like to the one receiving it? The responses I've gotten post-treatment are very diverse. Some see colors, images, or memories. Some have physical sensations like tingling, heat or movement. At the very least the one receiving reiki will feel relaxed. In the times after I've had reiki myself, I have felt an overall sense of balance, or of feeling centered. Check out the blog page for more information on this.

What does it feel like to channel Reiki? For me personally, my hands will often feel warm and I may sway slightly with the feeling of energy flowing. I often see colors, images, shapes, and/or reiki symbols, and am usually guided to particular areas of blockages, or areas that need attention. Check out the blog page for more information on this.
